The Tocobaga of Tampa Bay

February 21 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

$25

The Tocobaga was the name of a Mississippian culture that occupied the entire Tampa Bay region from Sarasota to just below Ocala. Dr. Block will discuss what we know of their life-way, their regional villages and their view of the spiritual realm. They were a vibrant, regional Indian culture until the Spanish arrival on April 15, AD1528 with the Narvaez expedition. They did not know that theirs and most other Native cultures in what is now Florida would be lost to disease in a little more that 100 years.
