In this 3-part course, we’ll examine the pieces of a Broadway score. What are the different types of songs a composer might choose to propel the action and interrogate the characters? How does a creator choose whether a certain moment requires a solo, or a duet, or a group number? What about style and tone? Over the past 80-100 years, Broadway composers have found every possible musical solution for our entertainment and enjoyment. In this class we’ll use video clips, musical excerpts, and even Jason at the piano to delve into this rich and deep subject. [3 Sessions]
