For nearly five decades, Miami’s civic leaders hoped to stage a grand world’s fair that connected the countries and continents of the Western hemisphere. Organizers hoped the exposition – named Interama – would showcase the economic, social and cultural ties between North, Central and South America with Miami as the true pan-American city. Before being cancelled in the 1990s, many high-profile architects, politicians, and entertainers signed on to the project. This lecture explores the history of a landmark event in Miami history that never came to fruition – yet symbolizes the Miami and Florida dream of the mid-20th century.
