Remembered as Hollywood’s quintessential “everyman,” Jack Lemon graced cinema screens for over fifty years and in the process, was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning for the films, “Mister Roberts” and “Save the Tiger.” With an easy-going screen presence and an ever-present smile, he is one of the few Hollywood actors who never experienced a fallow period. Lemmon was a Harvard graduate, a Navy veteran and a talented musician—versatile on a number of instruments. He was particularly noted for working with lifelong pal, Walter Matthau, in such classics as “The Odd Couple” and “Grumpy Old Men.” Lesser known is the fact that he was a true humanitarian, ever ready to help out his fellow man when the need arose. We will examine the life and career of this extraordinary artist.
