Though it was called “The Noble Experiment,” prohibition was perhaps the greatest example of American hypocrisy. Politicians who railed against the evils of drinking bought their own liquor supplies from bootleggers. The battle between the so-called “wets” and “dries” gave rise to cultural and social impacts that remain with us today. Our sessions examine the forces behind the Volstead Act, its opposition, and what brought about its welcomed repeal. [2 of 3 Sessions]
