In 1968 after the British ended their treaty agreements on the tip of the Arabian Peninsula, sheikdoms along the Persian Gulf formed the countries of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar. The discovery of oil in the region fueled unprecedented wealth and development as Bedouin villages transformed into ultra-futuristic cities. This introductory overview of contemporary architecture in the UAE and Qatar presents the miracle of this land between the desert and the sea.
