This month: Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore by Elizabeth Rush
Since its publication, the book has garnered numerous awards. Rising was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, winner of the National Outdoor Book Award, and a Chicago Tribune “Top 10” selection. In addition, it won the “Best Book of 2018” award from three separate publications, The Guardian, Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. In this collection of essays, Rush profiles various communities across the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts that are especially vulnerable to rising sea levels, weaving personal stories together with historical and scientific data about the fragile ecosystems along our shorelines. With her incisive and moving profiles of coastal communities, the author invites readers to consider the complex intersections of race, gender, socio-economic class, and climate change.
